More Body Mass Index Nonsense

On a recent trip to my doctor's office I was asked to get on the scale. Since this was a visit to a mental health practitioner, I asked what my weight had to do with anything.

His answer was that he was tracking my Body Mass Index. I said, "Well, that's pretty useless because I'm an athlete. I run. I bike. I have a lot of muscle."

And here's another example of BMI silliness.

The woman on the left (5'4'', 170 lbs, BMI 29.2) is five pounds shy of obese. The woman on the right (5'6'', 155 lbs, BMI 25) is officially overweight — never mind that she's a triathlete.
